Question. Persuade. Refer. | Free Suicide Prevention Training

We are hosting a free suicide prevention training at First United Methodist Church in Claremore on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 10-11am. Registration begins at 9:30am. It is open to the public, and attendees must be at least 18 years old.

Certified QPR trainers from Mental Health Association Oklahoma will present this one-hour training called “Question. Persuade. Refer.” (QPR). Attendees will learn about the warning signs of suicide as well as how to take action if someone is at risk of suicide. TO REGISTER, CLICK HERE.

“The whole community benefits from suicide prevention training,” said Donna Grabow, Executive Director of Safenet Services. “It is very sad to lose young lives, and if this helps just one person it is worth everyone’s time to come to the training. I would hope all facets of our business community would attend the training. One never knows when this will become a very valuable lesson and a life will be saved,” Grabow said.

In 2016, 822 Oklahomans died by suicide in Oklahoma, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. And, on average, one Oklahoman dies by suicide every 12 hours, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“One suicide is too many,” said Michael W. Brose, CEO of Mental Health Association Oklahoma. “We all play a role in preventing suicide, so please come learn how to ask a question and save a life.”
